Un luogo incantato del lago di Garda nella provincia di Trento è Torbole, situata nell’angolo nord orientale del lago in un territorio pianeggiante che comprende la foce del fiume Sarca immissario del lago.
Fu immortalata non solo da Dante ma anche da Wolfango Goethe che diceva nel suo Tagensbuch:
Con che ardente desiderio vorrei che i miei amici si trovassero un momento qui con me, per poter gioire della vista che mi sta innanzi!
A partire dall’ottocento fu anche luogo di soggiorno per numerosi giovani pittori e poeti impegnati nel Grand Tour che frequentarono Torbole sul Garda, attratti dalle descrizioni entusiastiche di Goethe che qui soggiornò .
Dall'inizio del Novecento Torbole divenne poi meta di molti pittori (per lo più germanofoni), diretti alla scuola del pittore berlinese Hans Lietzmann (1872-1955), che qui si era trasferito nel 1899.
Fino agli anni sessanta rimase attivo anche un altro ritrovo artistico, quello della famiglia Kaldor presso la Casa Beust. .
Il paese di Torbole, conosciuto anche come la Capitale del Vento", grazie all' Ora - vento che soffia da sud , ha le case disposte ad anfiteatro e raggruppate attorno al pittoresco porticciolo che conserva l'aspetto originale del paesino dei pescatori.
Nel Porto di Torbole giungevano le merci dalla pianura padana per poi ripartire per la Valle dell'Adige attraverso l'antichissima strada che s'inerpica per la valletta di S.Lucia. Per questa via, nel 1439, giunsero a Torbole le galere di Venezia che sul lago affrontarono vittoriosamente quelle del ducato di Milano. Durante il dominio veneto (1439-1509) il porto di Torbole assunse una particolare rilevanza militare e commerciale e si può ammirare sul molo il Dazio un piccolo edificio costruito per ordine dell' imperatrice Maria Teresa.
Sul fianco è visibile un bassorilievo in marmo raffigurante la spedizione veneziana.
Poco più in là, sul lato occidentale, è visibile "Casa Beust" l'Ottocentesca residenza della nobile famiglia tedesca Von Beust.
La facciata è decorata da un dipinto di Hans Lietzmann, raffigurante Sant' Antonio di Padova che predica ai pesci. La via più caratteristica del borgo è piazza Segantini che conserva gran parte fascino antico:per le variopinte case irregolari,i cortili, i portici, le scale esterne decorate con fiori.
Insomma Torbole è tutta da vedere ed un soggiorno almeno di qualche ora sarà veramente ritemprante nello spirito.
Torbole on Garda Lake:preferred place of Goethe
Torbole, an enchanted place in the Province of Trento, is situated in the north east of the Garda lake in a flat area which includes the mouth of the Sarca river tributary of the lake.
Not only was immortalized by Dante but also by Wolfgang Goethe who said in his Tagensbuch:

From the nineteenth century many young painters and poets on the Grand Tour were in Torbole, attracted by enthusiastic descriptions of Goethe who stayed here.
Torbole, beginning of the twentieth century ,became a destination for many artists (mostly German-speaking), direct to the school of the painter Hans Lietzmann Berlin (1872-1955), who moved here in 1899.
Until the 1960 remained in Torboleactive the Kaldor family in Beust House.. .
The town of Torbole, also known as the Capital of the Wind ", thanks to 'Ora” wind that blows from the south, has the houses set in an amphitheater and grouped around the picturesque harbour preserving the original appearance of the small village of fishermen.
In Torbole harbor the goods came from the north and then spread to the Adige Valley through the ancient road that climbs to the valley of St. Lucia. In this way, in 143arrived the” galere “of Venice which in Torbole lake victoriously faced those of the Duchy of Milan. During the Venetian rule (1439-1509) the port of Torbole assumed a particular military and commercialimportance and you can see on the wharf the "dazio" a small building built on the orders of 'Empress Maria Theresa.
On the side you will see a marble bas-relief depicting the Venetian expedition.
A little farther on the west side, is visible Casa Beust "the nineteenth-century residence of the German noble family von Beust.
The facade is decorated with a painting by Hans Lietzmann depicting Sant 'Antonio of Padua preaches to the fish. The most characteristic street of the village square is Segantini that retains much charm: colorful houses for irregular courtyards, porches, external stairs decorated with flowers.
Torbole is well worth seeing and staying at least a few hours is really refreshing spirit.
